There is a term for people who love lakes – they are called limnophiles.
Sputnik news has a feature on the most amazing mountain lakes. To me there is hardly anything on this planet more excellent than a beautiful mountain lake. The trouble is that when the public learns about beautiful places like this they sometimes bring smelly, noisy vehicles and other gear and they want to party there. Which of course destroys the beauty of it. So it’s maybe best that these special places remain a secret for as long as possible. So that only true naturalists along with the wildlife might enjoy them.
The Kelimutu volcano on the Indonesian island of Flores last erupted half a century ago. Its height is over 1600 meters. In the crater there are three lakes with
different shades of water. The colour depends on the dissolved minerals and changes from black to turquoise, red-brown or green over several years

Croatian Plitvice Lakes were formed due to natural dams: the Korana River flowed through limestone and created natural barriers. The upper lake is 133 meters higher than the lower one. There are about two dozen of them in total.

In Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, tourists visit Lake Peyto, named after its discoverer, the traveler Bill Peyto. The outline of the reservoir resembles the head of a huge wolf. The water is distinguished by an unusually bright “tropical” colour for northern latitudes.

Lake Peoe in Chile, in the Patagonian Andes, in the Torres del Paine National Park. Nearby there is a picturesque 65 meters high waterfall Salto Grande. There are several islets on the lake with bridges.
